About CN Tower

The CN Tower opened to the public in 1976 and quickly became an iconic symbol of Toronto internationally. It stands 553.3 meters tall in the southern part of the city, sandwiched between the former Lake Ontario shoreline along Front Street and its current water’s edge. Sited at a meeting place for many Nations over thousands of years, arriving by foot or by water, it now brings together people Indigenous to these lands as well as settlers, immigrants, and visitors from all over the world. The CN Tower’s active nightly lighting program is used for celebrations, causes, and local sports team spirit, and is dimmed in solidarity with tragic Canadian events. Each night, rainbow colours appear hourly to symbolize strength, unity, and hope.
