Parallel Projects
We are excited to announce the launch of TBA Parallel Projects, a new initiative supporting the visibility of local exhibitions featuring work by artists participating in Things Fall Apart, the 2026 Biennial. Taking place alongside the Biennial, this new initiative aims to amplify the vibrant artistic activity happening across the city during the Biennial period and offer multiple entry points into TBA artists’ work outside their Biennial projects, encouraging audiences to discover and engage with local exhibitions.

As the Earth rotates on its axis, the sun delivers periods of lightness and darkness to the planet, fueling numerous cycles that unfold within daily life and across deep geological time. Drawing on the transition from day to night as a poetic frame, Nightfall is an invitation to reflect on the relationship between these terrestrial cycles and the material, emotional, and social conditions of our lives. It’s also an expression of trust in the role of rest alongside action and of hope when we embrace the unknown.

Exhibition Description:
Journey of the Mind draws upon the writings of the Sikh Gurus, which offer practical guidance for understanding the mind and navigating these conditions. Rather than presenting spirituality as something distant or abstract, these teachings approach it as a lived practice, one that addresses fear, ego, distraction and suffering while opening possibilities for clarity, resilience and compassion.

RBC is proud to support the Toronto Biennial of Art’s investment in the development of contemporary Canadian artists. We are also pleased to present, in the RBC Community Gallery, works from the RBC Art Collection by artists whose work will be featured in the 2026 Biennial. Works by Brendan Fernandes, Dawit L. Petros, Kent Monkman, and Skawennati are presented here, while their work will also be showcased alongside the other artists in this city-wide exhibition, bringing leading contemporary artists to audiences across the GTA.

From Water to Water: A Land Acknowledgment brings together Anishinaabe artist and scholar Bonnie Devine and Canadian photographer Robert Burley to trace the histories of the Toronto Carrying Place Trail — a network of waterways and portage routes connecting the Great Lakes with Georgian Bay that has shaped movement, trade, culture and settlement across this land for thousands of years.
