Join us for the third edition of Curatorial Encounters. Exhibition Curators Dominique Fontaine and Miguel A. López will be joined by Jenn Goodwin, Curator of Public Programs, and Mary Kim, Senior Manager of Learning & Mediation, who will discuss both exhibition and programming curatorial through lines and how they will manifest in TBA’s public and learning programs.
Together, we will share drinks, snacks, and engage in a movement session led by dance artist and choreographer Esie Mensah.
Venue Information:
- Collective Space is located at 221 Sterling, in the Sterling Studio Lofts just north of the Sterling Road and Perth Avenue tri-intersection. Look out for signage posted in the area. Please note that there is uneven and cracked pavement on the way to Collective Space.
- Directions from the North: Collective Space is located on the Bloor subway line. From Lansdowne subway walk west on the south side of Bloor St. Take the 2nd left on Ruttan, next left on Merchant Lane and 1st right along the warehouse building. Collective Space is located at the south east end. The door has an awning that says Raw Space.
- Directions from the South: From the intersection of Dundas St. and Sterling Rd., walk north up Sterling Rd. The road will curve west, intersect with Perth Ave. and then curve north. Just after the intersection, on Sterling Rd., walk east into the parking. Head down the road, past the entrances of both the Sterling Studio Lofts and House of Assembly Building. Continue to the end of the road, turn left (north) and continue up the road. Collective Space will be located on the left (west) side. The door has an awning that says Raw Space.
Accessibility:
- There is a one inch rise to enter lobby.
- The internal space negotiable for mobility device use.
- The bathroom currently cannot accommodate wheelchairs.

Artist Bio
Esie Mensah
Esie Mensah is an award winning choreographer, director, dancer, movement director, educator, and TEDx speaker. A member of the Canadian Guild of Stage Directors and Choreographers as well as a two-time Dora nominated artist who has worked with megastars like Rihanna, Drake, Janelle Monae, Nelly Furtado and Arcade Fire to historic brands like Holt Renfrew, Coca-Cola, TIFF, Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto Raptors, and more. In theatre Mensah has worked as a choreographer/movement director on Three Sisters (Soulpepper), Ransacking Troy (Stratford Festival), Russian Play, Victory, Farmers’ Revolt (Shaw Festival), Three Sisters (Soulpepper), and director on Serving Elizabeth (Theatre Aquarius). Original creations include Dora-nominated production Shades, and films A Revolution of Love and TESSEL. Last year, Robert Binet (Ballet) and Mensah (Afrofusion) were commissioned by Canada’s National Ballet School, to co-choreograph “The Call” for Assemblée International. She was the choreographer for Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha: A Musical Reimagining presented by TOLive, the Luminato Festival and Volcano Theatre. Mensah recently presented two new works; ‘ZAYO’ presented by National Ballet of Canada and Citadel et Compagnie’s Spring Mix and ‘The Audition’ on the third year students at Toronto Metropolitan University.
