Elizabeth Grace is a Toronto partner of the law firm Lerners LLP, where she has practiced civil litigation since her call to the Ontario bar in 1995. She has a diverse legal practice that includes work in the areas of sexualized violence and institutional liability. She is co-author of the book Civil Liability for Sexual Abuse and Violence in Canada (2000), has authored many publications, and is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics relevant to abuse and harassment. In 2014, she was awarded the Women’s Law Association of Ontario’s President’s Award, and recognized as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers by the Canadian Lawyer Magazine. A strong supporter of legal education and law reform, she was a plenary speaker at the “It’s Never Okay” 2015 Summit on Sexual Violence and Harassment sponsored by Ontario’s Wynne Government, and a panellist at the #AfterMeToo Civil Roundtable filmed at the Globe and Mail’s head office in 2017.
Elizabeth also served two consecutive terms on the Board of Governors of the Law Commission of Ontario (2018 to 2024). Elizabeth is a longstanding supporter of contemporary Canadian art, serving as chair of her law firm’s art committee during its acquisition phase, commissioning portraits including of a senior firm member by the Toronto artist Joanne Tod, being a private collector who has loaned art work to numerous art galleries in Canada and beyond so it can be seen and more widely appreciated, and sponsoring art publications.
