About Toronto Pearson Airport

Exterior image of Toronto Pearson Airport

Originally built by the Government of Canada as the Malton Airport in 1937, the first scheduled passenger flight landed there in 1939. The airport, located in what is now the City of Mississauga, was renamed in 1984 in honour of Lester B. Pearson, the 14th Prime Minister of Canada and recipient of the 1957 Nobel Peace Prize. The international airport is the largest and busiest in Canada, hosting more than 40 million passengers a year, and  has long served as an important entry point for newcomers to Canada. The airport has been exhibiting art since the 1960s and houses major permanent works  by Richard Serra, Sol Lewitt and others.
