Jumblies is a Toronto-based organization with a Canada-wide reach that engages in collaborations between professional artists and diverse people and places, mentoring and supporting others to do so as well. Jumblies expands where art happens, who gets to be part of it, what forms it takes and whose stories it tells. The Gather Round Singers is a radically inclusive community choir, made up of singers of mixed ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
The choir upholds core values of access by: avoiding auditions; learning music by ear; providing transportation, healthy food, language interpretation/translation, personal care workers, on-site childcare; using accessible venues, and welcoming new members at any point in the process (sometimes up to and including the day of a performance!). For over a decade, the Gather Round Singers have been a part of Jumblies’ core Toronto projects, performing newly-commissioned works.
